Young Adult's Christmas Party: Update from Nicole Joseph

This holiday season the young adults from Church of the Holy Spirit and their friends raised just over $40 for the Home for Little Wanders. Home for Little Wanders is organization founded to create a safe haven for children; through the years they have grown servicing the neighborhoods of Mattapan and Roslindale at their American Legion HWY facilities, as well as locations throughout the Boston area. For more information on the Home for Little Wanderers, or to find out how you can get involved please visit their website.

Gathering together to celebrate and raise these funds was no small feat because this time around party-goers and contributors were facing mother nature. A home party became the best place to beat out the first storm of the winter season. Our hosts Kendyll and Eric Hillegas created a warm environment with festive food, warm cookies and new treats like, gluten free pizza (didn't see that one coming). The night was filled with great conversation and ornament making, led by Cheryl Barrett (thanks, Cheryl!).

Thanks so much for participating everyone! We can't wait to see you again!

Christmas Party

The Young Adult December Event will be a Christmas Party. We've cleared 12.19 with the church leadership, and it's on their calendar - add it to yours!

Look for the announcement about the party in this week's church bulletin, and updates regarding details on food, location, and particular activities in the weeks to come.

If we have your email address, you'll be receiving an evite invitation within the next week as well. Don't forget to join the group "Merry Christmas Mattapan" on Facebook and invite your 20-something and 30-something friends!

December 19th, Young Adult's Christmas Party: more to come!

Remember to leave us your ideas and suggestions for what would make this party great!

Follow the CHS Young Adults Blog: It Pays Off!

Alrighty then - here's the big news. We all know Christmas is is coming up. (Silver bells, snowflakes, angels, etc.). We could all probably use a little extra $ (stockings to fill, trees to trim, you know how it goes). And, (sad as it may be) we couldn't all win the CHS Fall Bowl-a-Thon's fAbULoUs prize of a $10 Target Gift Card!

But, never fear! There is hope!

From now (December 2) through December 19th, every time you comment on a CHS Young Adults Blog entry, your name will be entered to win - hushed whispers of anticipation - ANOTHER $10 TARGET GIFT CARD!

Then, on December 19th, at our Christmas Party, we'll draw the name of the winner and present him/her with the illustrious prize.

The more you comment, the better your chances! Just remember to leave your name in your comment, so we know who you are!

Ron's Bowling Event

Last night the CHS young adults had our November event, a bowl-a-thon and canned food drive at Ron's Bowling in Hyde Park. About 10 CHS-ers turned out for the event, and helped make it a really great time to relax, reconnect and most importantly--take part in some very competitive candlepin bowling.

The high score for the night went to Miss Cady Lespinasse, who bowled a gorgeous 84. But, since that 84 was in the first frame, and we had some more folks show up for the second frame, we decided that whoever won the second frame would win the night's fabulous grand prize: a $10 Target gift card.

After a heated game, delicious bowls of Ron's 'world-famous' ice cream and (not-as-world-famous) pizza, Irmine Mode, CHS parishioner of over 8 years won the evening and the grand prize. This was a surprise ending, since Irmine had never even bowled before--or so she says...

All-in-all, an excellent evening. We're excited for our next event coming up in December. Let us know if you have any ideas, and watch the wires for news!

Blog Launch

Here it is, the 1st CHS Young Adult's blog post!
  • What is the CHS Young Adult's Blog? A website especially for the 20-somethings and 30-somethings of Church of the Holy Spirit, Mattapan.
  • Why do we have a blog? Because here, we'll have a place to post pictures, our news about events, and to tell our stories.
  • What can we do with a blog? We can link to facebook, subscribe to an RSS feed and pass on the link to our 20-something friends and 30-something friends who are looking to get involved. We can stay connected to each other, and also reach out more effectively.
  • Who uses the blog? All CHS Young Adults! We can all post comments, we can all subscribe to the RSS feed, and we can all read the stories.
  • Who writes the blog? The stories are written by members of the Young Adult leadership team. If you're interested in writing for the blog, or in the leadership team, speak with Yadira Martinez or Kendyll Hillegas.
Watch for the post on our Fall Young Adult Bowl-a-Thon and Canned Food Drive, coming later this week!
